Engineering, Procurement and Construction Contractors

Desert Rock has chosen Fluor Corporation as its Program Manager. Fluor will facilitate the design and construction of the 1,500 MW power project. Construction is expected to begin in 2009. Many regional and local contractors will provide multiple services to allow the project to be built on time and to meet performance requirements.


U.S. EPA Air Permit

The Desert Rock Energy Project submitted its air permit application in May 2004. The Draft Air Permit was issued in August 2006 and public meetings and hearings were held in late 2006. These meetings and hearings were conducted by the U.S. EPA. The project received its final Air Permit on 7/31/2008.

EIS Status

The Desert Rock Energy Project's Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has been released by the Department of Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs and recommends approval of the Preferred Alternative which includes the 1,500 MW Desert Rock project and associated rights of ways. The Notice of Availability of the Draft EIS was published in the Federal Register June 22, 2007, which started the official comment period. Comment period ended October 9, 2007. The round of public hearings were held July 17-25.

The Final EIS is expected to be available in the fourth quarter 2008.

Activities on Site

The two wells to test the Morrison Aquifer and its water have been completed. Flow testing is completed.

 

 

Geotechnical surveyors performed ground sampling in late 2006.
